Rocky Mountain Foot & Ankle had the opportunity to serve last Thursday at the free clinic held at the Expo Idaho Center. The AMEN Clinic offered dental, vision, and medical services. “It is first come, first serve, there are no pre-qualifications. We don’t check IDs, we don’t ask for insurance cards, immigration status – it’s completely free so anybody that shows up, we will serve them,” Liz Thomsen, the clinic director for Community Development Inc. said.
More than 850 volunteers took part in the 3-day clinic. This year’s clinic went beyond physical problems. “We had mental health resources, a substance treatment table, information on the 2-1-1 Care Line for the Department of Health and Welfare, and the Idaho Foodbank” Paula Barthelmess, a volunteer said.
Dr. Roman Burk and his staff were on-site to care for all the foot and ankle patients. “We saw a range of medical issues. We treated athlete’s foot issues and some plantar fasciitis patients. Dr. Burk was also able to do a lot of foot education with patients,” said Jenna from Rocky Mountain Foot & Ankle.
“It was great to participate in this event and an amazing opportunity to give back to the community and lend a helping hand,” said Dr. Burk from Rocky Mountain Foot & Ankle. ” We treated 1450 patients between vision, dental, and medical.”
