Relapses

A small percentage of children’s feet will relapse in spite of proper bracing. If the infant’s foot keeps slipping out of the brace boot, it may be the first sign of a slight recurrence of the deformity. If this problem is addressed promptly, it can usually be corrected with a series of new castings and possibly some minor surgery.

Surgical Treatment

In the case of a severe clubfoot deformity that has not responded to stretching and casting, surgery may be necessary to adjust the ligaments, tendons, and joints in the foot and ankle. If the stretching and casting have been partially successful, then the surgery will be less extensive.
