MLS Laser Therapy
Multiwave Locked System (MLS) laser therapy uses robotically synchronized lasers tuned to specific wavelengths of light that your body's cells respond to. This treatment offers a number of important benefits, including:
- Relieving pain by blocking nerve cells
- Acting as an anti-inflammatory by causing vasodilation and activating lymphatic drainage
- Improving vascular activity by increasing the formation of new capillaries in damaged tissues
- Limiting the formation of scar tissue after surgery or injury
- Promoting rapid wound healing
MLS laser therapy is drug-free, painless, and typically takes just 15 minutes per session. It is appropriate for a wide range of foot and ankle issues causing pain and inflammation, including ankle sprains, tendinitis, arthritis, and peripheral neuropathy.
Orthotics
Orthotics help support the feet to improve mobility and relieve pain. While you can purchase over-the-counter orthotics at most drugstore or pharmacy locations, these products are made of lower-quality materials and can't be customized to fit your specific needs. At Rocky Mountain Foot & Ankle, we provide durable, high-quality custom orthotics that are designed to treat common foot and ankle concerns such as diabetic foot ulcers, plantar fasciitis, bursitis, and tendonitis.
Custom orthotics can be divided into two general categories.
- Functional orthotics, which are usually made from a semi-rigid material like plastic or graphite and treat foot pain caused by an abnormal motion
- Accommodative orthotics, which are made from softer materials and provide additional support and cushioning to the feet
When your podiatrist prescribes custom orthotics, your insurance may cover all or part of the cost. Your insurance will not cover over-the-counter orthotics that are not customized to treat your specific foot care needs.
PRP Therapy
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy is a non-invasive procedure using the patient's own blood to help heal tissue damage, reduce inflammation, and stimulate the growth of new tissue in the area. When patients receive PRP therapy from their podiatrist, their blood is taken from their arm or hand and added to a special centrifuge machine. This machine processes the blood so that it separates into three distinct layers: red blood cells, platelets, and plasma. The separated plasma is known as "platelet-rich plasma" (PRP). This plasma is then injected into specific areas of the foot or ankle where the patient has a tear or injury.
PRP therapy can treat many types of foot and ankle conditions, including plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendonitis, stress fractures, ligament sprains or strains, and chronic tendon pain. Because it uses your own body's natural healing powers to accelerate recovery time, it is a great way for podiatrists to address various foot and ankle issues quickly and effectively with minimal risk of side effects or complications.
Stem Cell Therapy
Stem cell therapy is a type of regenerative medicine that uses stem cells to help the body heal itself. Stem cells are special kinds of cells that can differentiate or change into other types of cells. This makes them incredibly versatile, as they can replace damaged tissue.
Podiatrists are beginning to use stem cell therapy for a variety of conditions related to the feet and ankles, such as arthritis, tendonitis, plantar fasciitis, and even nerve damage. In many cases, stem cell therapy is more effective than traditional treatments such as steroid injections or surgery.
